Rental terms

1. Who we are

UtilaWheels is a booking marketplace for vehicle rental on Utila, Islas de la Bahía, Honduras. We do not own the vehicles listed on this site. They belong to individual owners and operators on the island, who set their own prices and supply the vehicle to you directly.

What we are responsible for is the booking: taking the reservation and payment, checking identification, and the refund at clause 7. What the owner is responsible for is the vehicle, its condition, and handing it over as booked.

The owner of this site also lists a vehicle here and is bound by the same terms as any other owner.

2. Who can rent

• You must be 18 or over.
• You must upload a clear photograph of a valid government ID card or passport when you book. The rental may be refused if it is unreadable, expired, or does not match the person collecting.
• No driving licence is required to rent or ride a scooter on Utila, and we do not ask for one.

3. Booking and payment

• Reservations close 72 hours before pick-up.
• Payment is taken in full at the time of booking. The price shown includes our fee; the breakdown is itemised at checkout.
• No deposit is taken.

4. Fuel

• The vehicle is supplied with a full tank and should be returned with a full tank.
• Returned short of full: charged $10 for a tank.
• Fuel may be prepaid at booking for $10, in which case the vehicle may be returned at any level.

5. Delivery and return

• Delivery and collection options are set by whoever owns the vehicle and are shown before you pay.
• The vehicle is returned to wherever it was received. Delivered to the ferry, returned to the ferry; collected in person, returned in person.

6. Cancellation

• Cancellation terms are set by the owner of the vehicle and are shown on the listing before you pay.
• Where the ferry does not sail and you cannot reach the island, contact us as soon as you know. We will not treat a cancelled sailing as a no-show.

7. If a vehicle is not available

If a vehicle you have booked and paid for cannot be supplied, you are refunded in full. Not credited, not automatically rescheduled — refunded. Where the vehicle belonged to another operator, the cost is borne by that operator, and repeated failures remove them from the platform.

8. Condition and damage

• Vehicles are used on an island with varied road surfaces and accumulate ordinary wear. Normal wear is not charged for.
• Where a vehicle is returned unusable, we may pursue the cost of repair using the identification provided at booking.

9. Riding

• You ride at your own risk and are responsible for your own conduct on the road.
• Helmets are available on request from the owner of the vehicle.
• Do not ride under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
