Who am I actually renting from?
The person who owns the vehicle. UtilaWheels is a marketplace — people on Utila list their scooters, ATVs and golf carts here, and you book them directly. The site does not own any of it.
That is why the price is the owner’s price, why delivery options vary between listings, and why you can see who you are dealing with before you pay.
Do I need a driving licence to rent a scooter on Utila?
No. There is no licence requirement to rent or ride a scooter on Utila.
Most visitors assume the opposite, so it is worth saying plainly: you do not need to bring a licence, an international permit, or any driving document.
What ID do I need, and why?
A clear photo of a government ID card or passport, uploaded when you book.
It is checked before any money moves, rather than at handover — so if there is a problem with it you find out while booking, not standing at the dock.
It is the only recourse we have if a vehicle comes back unusable. It is stored securely and is not shared.
Do you take a deposit?
No.
How does fuel work?
It goes out with a full tank and comes back with a full tank.

The ferry dock, your hotel, or the owner’s shop — whichever of those they offer. Each listing says, before you pay.
How far ahead do I need to book?
At least 72 hours before pick-up. Reservations close inside that window, so sort it before you travel.
Can a scooter handle the roads here?
Yes. Scooters go everywhere on Utila, and they are how most people get around.
The honest caveat is rain — wet weather makes riding genuinely unpleasant, and that is about the weather rather than the terrain.
Are helmets provided?
Depends on the owner — some have them, some don’t. The listing says. Almost nobody on the island rides in one.
